One of the busiest intersections in La Crosse will soon have a red drop box for used drug needles.

The city board of public works has approved the installation of a metal box near City Well #22, at the corner of Losey and Mormon Coulee Road.

City utility manager Bernie Lenz says that corner, near Walgreen’s and Goodwill, has been identified as a ‘hot spot’ where a large number of needles has been found.

Other drop box locations around the city include Jay Street, near the Market Square ramp, and the boat landing near the Clinton Street bridge.

City leaders report that fewer needles are being left on the ground in areas where the drop boxes have been installed.
