This year has now become one of the 10 wettest years on record in La Crosse.

With nearly an inch of rain reported at the airport on Wednesday, the city’s precipitation total for 2019 rose to 41.9 inches, which is now the 8th highest ever.

That’s about seven-tenths of an inch below last year’s total (42.59 inches), and three inches short of the all-time record of 44.76 inches set in 2016.

The weather service says the last four years all rank among the 15 wettest ever in La Crosse.

But a new record is not a sure thing.

In a normal December, La Crosse only gets 1.3 inches of precipitation, rain or snow.
