The annual “Coats for Kids” program through Catholic Charities in La Crosse is underway.

Shannon Parker, with the campaign, says they are looking for a certain characteristic when it comes to new and gently used donations.

“We want them to be warm and weatherproof,” Parker said. “Families want those kids to be dry so we’re looking for those heavy-duty items.”

Donations can be dropped off at Kwik Trips in La Crosse, Onalaska, Holmen, West Salem and Stoddard now through Nov. 22.

All clothing donated at each Kwik Trip store will be distributed to people in need in all of these communities through our Catholic Charities office in downtown La Crosse (map), beginning Nov. 18 from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. and will continue every Monday until supplies last.

Parker stressed that the donations can be for people of all ages.

Usually, the campaign doesn’t have as much of a need in mid-November. That’s not the case this year, of course.

“Luckily, we’ve gotten a few coats from community members due to the cold weather,” Parker said. “Distribution will start on the (Nov. 18) at Catholic Charities, for people to come and take what they need.”

If Monday distribution days do not work for those needing clothing, community members may call Catholic Charities (888.212.4357).
