Onalaska Thanksgiving dinner signing up volunteers

Thanksgiving comes late this November, not until the 28th.

So people who want to work on area community Thanksgiving dinners still have more than three weeks to get ready for those events.

For the 8th straight year, Onalaska is hosting its own holiday dinner on Thanksgiving.

Onalaska Rotary spokesman Gary Luecke tells WIZM’s La Crosse Talk that the dinner brings neighbors together, sometimes, by chance.

“People sat together and didn’t realize that they were neighbors. They’ll go ‘Yeah, I live on this street,’ and they get to know each other,” said Luecke.

This year, Holmen is jointly sponsoring the Omni Center dinner with Onalaska.

Luecke says they served around 1400 dinners in 2018, about twice the number served the first year.

About 300 volunteers will be needed.

To sign up, you can go to the website www.octd.org.
