One taken to hospital after boating accident on Vernon County lake

The Vernon County Sheriff’s Office investigated a boating accident Sunday afternoon.

Law enforcement reports that the mishap occurred on Runge Hollow Lake in the Town of Jefferson.

Christopher Barnes of Viroqua and Micayla Cicil of Westby were in a small pedal-powered boat when it suddenly took on water and capsized in shallow water, opposite the boat landing.

Cecil was taken to the hospital with injuries, while Barnes was not hurt.

The sheriff’s office says neither were wearing life jackets and remind that at least one life jacket has to be on any vessel at all times.

The accident remains under investigation.
