TOMAH, Wis. — A 21-year-old man tried to rob a Kwik Trip in Tomah with a knife. Instead of handing over money, the Kwik Trip clerk called 911.

Luckily, Jakob Layland decided not to use the knife to get the money. Instead, he stabbed the credit card machine and took off from the north side store around 10 p.m. Wednesday, according to the complaint.

Tomah police caught up with Layland a short time later near the Kwik Trip on the south end of town and arrested him with little incident — thanks in part to Viktor, Tomah’s K9 officer.

Layland is in Monroe County Jail on a slew of charges, including attempted robbery.
