There will be more digging in La Crosse’s Riverside Park this year.

Besides the rebuilding of the bandstand and creation of a new canopy, Xcel Energy needs to replace a buried cable running through the park.

Xcel land rights agent Dawn Schultz told La Crosse’s park board Thursday that the replacement project is planned for September through November, with time off during Oktoberfest.

The digging would take place mostly inside the grassy area of the park, with little disruption of traffic through Riverside.

The park board approved the replacement and board member Todd Olson asked the power company to replace any trees that might be uprooted by the project, saying “if you know this board, we don’t like losing trees.”
