The longest-running director in the history of the La Crosse Community Theatre was back in town this weekend, to be honored for his achievements here.

Morrie Enders headed LCT for 18 years, starting in 1987.

Before Enders arrived, no one had stayed as the theatre’s director for more than five years but he was determined to stay at least six years and set a new record.

“So then after six,” he decided, “I’m gonna keep stayin’ because I’m havin’ a great time,” Enders said.

Enders was inducted into the LCT Hall of Fame on Saturday night, along with longtime theatre business manager Jo Ann Jenkins and performer Suzanne Young.

Enders now runs the Lincoln Community Playhouse in Nebraska, and continues community outreach programs there, which mirror some activities he did in La Crosse.

LCT performed some plays in foreign countries during Morrie’s time here, taking ‘Cotton Patch Gospel’ to Europe, and ‘The Fantasticks’ to Japan.
