That’s a wrap for La Crosse’s 3rd snowiest winter

With the official start of spring happening Wednesday afternoon in La Crosse, the National Weather Service has added up weather stats at the end of ‘astronomical winter.’

This was La Crosse’s second-wettest winter ever…the third snowiest local winter on record…and the coldest winter in 5 years.

La Crosse’s snowfall since the first day of winter in December has been 53 inches…the highest amount in almost 50 years, since the winter of 1970-71.

A month ago, the snow depth reached its peak for the season at 19 inches.

However, the milder weather of the last two weeks has reduced the snow cover in La Crosse to only 3 inches, and the ground is bare in many parts of the city.

A native of Prairie du Chien, Brad graduated from UW - La Crosse and has worked in radio news for more than 30 years, mostly in the La Crosse area.
