La Crosse DA wants more staffers

La Crosse’s district attorney says he’s been short-handed on staff for some time but maybe this is the year when Tim Gruenke gets more help.

Gruenke tells the county judiciary committee that he’s encouraged by the budget plans of Gov. Tony Evers to increase prosecutor numbers around Wisconsin.

Gruenke says the number of criminal cases continues to grow, with drug use and domestic violence contributing to the increase.

The number of felony cases filed in La Crosse County exceeded 1200 last year and is already above 200 so far for 2019.

The DA says he has already added a staffer just to handle the processing of court records, which includes squad-car videos.

A native of Prairie du Chien, Brad graduated from UW - La Crosse and has worked in radio news for more than 30 years, mostly in the La Crosse area. He regularly covers local courts and city and county government. Brad produces the features "Yesterday in La Crosse" and "What's Buried on Brad's Desk." He also writes the website "Triviazoids," which finds odd connections between events that happen on a certain date, and he writes and performs with the local comedy group Heart of La Crosse. Brad been featured on several national TV programs because of his memory skills.
