Suspect in 2015 rape returns to La Crosse jail after Minnesota arrest

The suspect in an alleged 2015 rape in La Crosse is back in the county jail, after skipping a court appearance months ago. 

Bond is set at $20,000 cash for 47-year-old Richard Vang of St. Paul. 

Prosecutors say Vang raped, choked and cut a woman he had met months before. He also, allegedly, threatened to kill her. 

Vang has not yet been tried in the case and was considered incompetent for a time after his arrest. 

He missed a series of court hearings in La Crosse late last year and was arrested in the St. Paul area in December. 

A native of Prairie du Chien, Brad graduated from UW - La Crosse and has worked in radio news for more than 30 years, mostly in the La Crosse area. He regularly covers local courts and city and county government. Brad produces the features "Yesterday in La Crosse" and "What's Buried on Brad's Desk." He also writes the website "Triviazoids," which finds odd connections between events that happen on a certain date, and he writes and performs with the local comedy group Heart of La Crosse. Brad been featured on several national TV programs because of his memory skills.
