If you plan on heading to the La Crosse Area YMCA next week for some New Year’s Resolution work, you won’t be alone.

Heidi Kuennen, wellness director at the Y, said they get a lot more traffic this time of year.

She adds that they should be able to help people of all abilities.

“We have something for everyone,” Kuennen said. “From athletes, to a health seeker, to someone who has never seen this type of facility before. We also have a lot of classes that are aimed at beginners.”

Many have high goals at the start of their weight loss or get healthy journey, but Kuennen says you should be careful not to get too ahead of yourself.

“Make small changes, whether it’s exercising or even your diet,” she said. “Make those small changes that you’ll be able to maintain, and start to work it into your daily lifestyle.”

Kuennen also suggests that you bring someone with you when you workout, so that the individual or the group can keep you accountable throughout the days and weeks.

To apply for a membership to the YMCA, stop by their locations in either La Crosse or Onalaska.

I also act as the voice of local sports, doing play by play of high school and college football and basketball. When not working I enjoy golfing.
