Hand-made canoe offered as grand prize for La Crosse tourism promotion

This 14-foot canoe made in Winona is the grand prize in the "Boatload of La Crosse County" promotion

Can you canoe? 

Even if you can’t, you might want to win a hand-made canoe as part of a tourism promotion from the Explore La Crosse agency. 

Convention bureau spokesman Brent Hanifl says people can enter a contest to win a yellow and red Sanborn Canoe, made in Winona, or other prizes in a drawing to be held every month. 

The canoe will be awarded to one of those 12 monthly winners.

The campaign is called ‘Boatload of La Crosse County,’ and it also highlights shopping and arts attractions which can be found in the region.

The canoe will be on display at the I-90 welcome center on French Island for much of 2019. 

A native of Prairie du Chien, Brad graduated from UW - La Crosse and has worked in radio news for more than 30 years, mostly in the La Crosse area. He regularly covers local courts and city and county government. Brad produces the features "Yesterday in La Crosse" and "What's Buried on Brad's Desk." He also writes the website "Triviazoids," which finds odd connections between events that happen on a certain date, and he writes and performs with the local comedy group Heart of La Crosse. Brad been featured on several national TV programs because of his memory skills.
