Sacia elected Trempealeau DA, officially ending recall drive that ousted incumbent

The challenger who defeated the Trempealeau County DA in a recall vote last month will now get the job himself.

John Sacia was chosen as district attorney in the general election Tuesday, winning by 700 votes against corporation counsel Rick Niemeyer.

Sacia overwhelmingly defeated incumbent Taavi McMahon on an October recall ballot, after McMahon came under fire for his management of the Trempealeau DA’s office and for his prosecution of certain cases.

McMahon had accused sheriff candidate Kevin Deeren of supporting the recall so he could have control over the DA…but Deeren lost the sheriff’s race himself, to Brett Semingson.
