As I See It

Make your vote count today

Well, the day is finally here. After literally years of campaigning, candidates for elected office finally find their name on the ballot today. After months of enduring all those nasty attack ads, voters finally get to declare which of the candidates they like best. And by the end of the day today, we will get relief from all those smears and lies. It is an ugly process of electing new politicians. Our campaigns go on too long, and the tone is too nasty. But today we can finally do something about it. We can vote. Each one of us have the right to vote. That right should not be taken lightly. Your vote matters just as much as that of your neighbor, or the powerful and wealthy. Yet, in the last gubernatorial election four years ago, just 54.5% of eligible voters took a few minutes out of their day to cast a ballot. And that was a record turnout, the best since 1948. Let’s hope today voters in Wisconsin do even better. We shouldn’t be proud of our efforts when nearly half of eligible voters stay home. So carve out a few minutes of your day today, and head to your polling place. Be a part of the process. Whether to vote for the candidate you really like, or to vote against the candidate you don’t. It feels good. See you at the polls.
