Sex assault charges dropped against Holmen school staffer

A sexual assault trial scheduled for next week in La Crosse has been cancelled, with the dismissal of charges against a former Holmen school district staffer.

Timothy Schilling had been charged with repeated sexual assault of a child over a number of years, along with intentional child abuse.

The 48-year-old was an education assistant at Holmen High School before the charges were filed almost a year ago.

“The state moved to dismiss the case because the victim in the case wasn’t in a place where he was able to go forward and testify in the case,” District attorney Tim Gruenke said.

Gruenke says it’s possible that charges could be re-filed against Schilling in the future.

The criminal charges were not related to school activity.
