As I See It

Congress still doing nothing to prevent Russian hacking

If you are like most employees, if you have a lot of work to do, you may have to stay later, or perhaps come in on the weekend to get all your work done. Not so for members of Congress. Even when it comes to dealing with measures of national security. The United States Congress still has not passed any legislation to secure U.S. voting systems in the two years since Russia interfered in the 2016 elections. And that won’t get done anytime soon. Congress has left Washington to hit the campaign trail, and won’t head back to work until after the mid-term elections, five weeks from today. Even if Congress passed a cybersecurity bill today, there wouldn’t be enough time to implement any additional protections before November 6th. So we know Russia worked to attack our election system, the very foundation of our democracy, yet our elected officials can’t seem to find time to make sure it doesn’t happen again. That hardly sends a forceful message to would-be hackers that the U.S. won’t stand for such attacks. Election security is not a democratic or republican issue. Congress needs to stand united, and take steps to ensure our election system is free from outside attack. Passing such legislation would send a strong message to the Russians that their hacking attempts will be thwarted, and would send a message to the American people that our elected officials consider the matter serious and that we can again have confidence in the outcome of our elections.

The US Justice Dept announced publically that no voting system was compromised by anyone let alone Russia therefore not one vote was changed by a Russian, the Chinese (or anyone else for that matter) to our election systems. Social media attempts to distort facts or cast doubt on one candidate or the other was aimed at both parties and monies put towards those attempts were found to be only a small fraction of dollars compared to domestic attempts to sway public opinion one way or the other. The truth is all countries engage in and support candidates that support their countries position namely on economic issues. This is nothing new and simply par for the course. The media loves to throw “Russia” out there to distort the facts in an attempt to get the Trump/Russia notion to stick. The left leaning media knows full well most people are casual viewers/listeners of national news and they can use partial truths or flat out lies to make a non-issue an issue i. e. Trump/Russia. Pass all the legislation you want and it won’t stop countries representatives from lobbying for their countries interest. If anything Trump winning only proved our election systems are just fine and not one vote was changed by some perceived threat. The liberal media however has the obvious goal of trying to cast doubt on anything Trump to delegitimize his election. There’s the real threat which has become more and more obvious as the bulk of Media/DNC becomes more desperate.
