There’s talk at La Crosse City Hall of moving another piece of public art.

It’s not as controversial as the Hiawatha statue in Riverside Park but the Lacrosse Players sculpture on Rose Street could be transported to a different location for safety reasons.

City council member Andrea Richmond worries drivers causing a traffic hazard by pulling to the side of the road to look at the large ‘welcome’ sign.

Richmond would like to see the sculpture moved to the new eagle-viewing wayside near Exit 3. She plans to attend a group discussion on the project today at City Hall.

Richmond is also floating the idea of having another eagle sculpture, similar to the one at Riverside Park, installed at the viewing area along the Black River.
