La Crosse show choir director’s plea hearing on sexual assault charges is pushed back to September

The accusers of a La Crosse area show choir director will have to wait a bit longer before he reaches a plea agreement on sex-related charges. 

Dustin Bagstad had been scheduled for a plea hearing Tuesday in La Crosse County court, but the hearing has been reset for mid-September.

Bagstad faces 19 charges, including sexually assaulting two children, dating as far back as 2010.

Bagstad is a former part-time employee with the La Crosse School District. He was placed on leave Dec. 10, 2017, when he was first accused of sexually assaulting a 15-year-old Logan High School student in choir over more than a year. 

One of the victims says her first sexual contact with Bagstad occurred when she was 15, and participating in show choir. She said Bagstad unexpectedly traveled to Florida to see her, while she was vacationing with a friend’s family.

She said her friend’s parents knew of him from show choir and let him stay on their couch for the night, according to the report. He left the next day.
