La Crescent police “would like to meet” scammer in cowboy hat who approached two young girls

A guy in a cowboy hat is reportedly trying out get-rich-quick schemes on people in La Crescent and La Crosse.

La Crescent police said the guy approached two 11-to-12 year old girls, attempting to scam them into participating in a pageant that required a fee.

La Crescent police said another person called dispatch and said the guy was spotted in La Crosse near the Root Note.

The guy in the hat passed out a business card to the girls, advertising a promotional pageant.

La Crescent police have determined the guy is from Mississippi and law enforcement there is familiar with him. They say has no significant criminal history. He’s just has done a bunch of “get rich quick scams” in the past.

Police don’t know if he’s still in the area but they say he’s NOT believed to be a threat to public safety.

BUT, La Crescent police would like to know where he is, because they would “like to introduce ourselves to him.”
