Georgia man named fire chief in Onalaska

Onalaska will get an outsider’s perspective on their fire department.

The city’s police and fire commission have named William “Billy” D. Hayes as the new fire chief.

Hayes had served as the fire chief in Riverdale, Georgia, in the Atlanta metro area and has worked for the District of Columbia fire department.

Hayes replaces Don Dominick, who retired last month after 10 years as chief in Onalaska. Dominick’s retirement announcement came at about the same time the city’s police chief abruptly quit.

Hayes is expected to be in Onalaska in August.
