Memorial service Monday for local couple that drowned in Iceland, as one tried to rescue other

LA CRESCENT, Minn. — Memorial services are planned for 5 p.m. Monday in La Crescent for a local couple, who drowned last month during a vacation in Iceland.

Veterinarian Janet Veit and her husband, Brian Schumacher, died while fly-fishing.

There have been conflicting accounts of which person went into the cold water first, with the other going in to attempt a rescue. Both drowned.

 

The service will be at the Prince of Peace Lutheran Church with visitation beginning at 3 p.m.
