Resolution calls for elimination of weed commissioner position in La Crosse

The days of the weed czar appear to be numbered in La Crosse.

In June, the city council will consider dumping the part-time weed commissioner position and simply adding another full-time ‘code enforcement technician.’

The new inspector would provide, according to the resolution, “a more proactive approach to city wide code enforcement.”

That person would work in the Fire Prevention and Building Safety department and the duties of the current weed commissioner would be absorbed by that new position.

According to a resolution going in front of the city council, the new position would simply be paid for out of revenue already available through code enforcement and inspection fees.

Currently, the weed czar is a strictly seasonal position.
