Details have been hammered out between the city of La Crosse and the developer Impact Seven for a much-anticipated apartment development on the north side of La Crosse.

The Garden Terrace Project on Kane Street has been hailed as a potential game-changer for the city’s efforts to fight homelessness.

That’s because the 50-apartment project will have 15 units set aside for formerly homeless veterans, other units priced for those making 50 to 60 percent of the area’s median income and then eight market-rate apartments.

The development will also include a community center and a greenhouse.

Under the newly released development agreement, the city will pay $160,000 to Impact Seven in assistance with the guarantee that minimum construction costs will be $10.3 million.

The city council will vote on the development agreement next month,.

Construction is supposed to start in September of this year and be largely finished by next May.
