This is the week where the La Crosse Center could be approved to expand into Riverside Park.

The La Crosse Center Board is hoping for an endorsement on that part of the $49-million renovation from the Park Board at its monthly meeting Thursday. The board meets at 5:30 p.m. at City Hall and will review these items.

In a statement to park commissioners, the Center Board said an OK will allow architects to continue design work on the proposed ‘River Lobby’  the elevated meeting space which would be built across Front Street and into Riverside Park.

Critics of the plan have argued that the expansion idea would take up too much space in the park and appears plain and boxy.

Center leaders have said that park activities would be able to continue underneath the proposed addition.
