Voters approve new elementary and upgrades in Sparta

It’s a yes for the Sparta School District.

With over 3,000 ballots tallied, 51 percent of the voters agreed to a $28.5 million referendum to build a new elementary school.

Also approved, by 64 percent, is a $4 million upgrade of existing elementary buildings.

Space issues have plagued the district recently, with the addition of 287 kids in the last 5 years and the prospect that those numbers will continue to rise.

Meanwhile, 76 percent of the La Crosse School District voters supported its exceeding the revenue limit by $4.1 million per year for the next five years in order to keep class sizes small, as well as take care of security and technology upgrades.
