La Crosse Congressman Kind blasts both parties over spending bill

The U.S. House passed a $1.3 trillion spending bill in Washington on Thursday afternoon but it still has to go to the Senate before midnight Saturday to avoid a government shutdown.

One person voting no on the bill was Democratic Congressman Ron Kind of La Crosse.

“Yet another example of the unwillingness of the Republican and Democratic leadership to make tough decisions surrounding our excessive spending and national debt,” Kind said.

The bill passed on 256-167 in Congress and it has Kind worried where the spending is headed.

“THis budget, combined with the recent $2 trillion tax bill, will blow through our budget caps and jeopardize the future of Social Security and Medicare, rather than prepare for the 70 million baby-boomers who are beginning retirement,” he said.
