The wait is almost over, for local arts lovers to see the big baby sculpture that’s been donated to the city of La Crosse.

The ‘Hatched Baby’ sculpture by German artist Wolfgang Auer is scheduled to be installed on the south side of City Hall on April 4.

“Waiting for, basically, the frost to come out of the ground and the insurance company to get back to us,” parks department supervisor Dan Trussoni said.

Trussoni added that the artwork needs to be insured against, among other things, vandalism.

The 9-foot-high baby coming out of an egg has to be moved out of a Myrick Park shelter before spring events are held there, starting in late April.

The Hatched Baby was displayed in Ohio for about a year before being brought to La Crosse.
