Willow Tolle wants to remind people that a school shooting can happen anywhere.
The Central High School senior has been through four serious lockdowns at her school, where she feared for her life.
That’s why her classmates are joining with students across the nation at 10 a.m. today in a national walkout in memory and in protest.
The walkout is a tribute to the 17 who died in the Parkland, Fla., shooting, while also call to action in the name of gun violence.
The walkout will take place for 17 minutes.
“Each minute is representative of (someone) who lost their life in the Parkland shooting, raising awareness for student safety and the safety of our public schools,” Tolle said.
Tolle, who is helping organize the demonstration, added that students will walk out of school, around the block and protest on Losey Blvd.
The La Crosse’s school district said the day will go on as planned and those who leave will be marked as unexcused.
