La Crosse up to 7.3 inches of snow for winter … had 25 inches last year at this time

Clean up well underway today after several inches of snow blanketed the region overnight.

The city of La Crosse might have been headed for its driest January on record, until the snow fell Sunday.

According to the National Weather Service, La Crosse had only 1.3 inches during the first 13 days of January. The record-low snowfall for the month is 1.6., set in 2006.

That record, of course, no longer in jeopardy, because of the six inches of snow reported in La Crosse since Sunday afternoon.

That’s more snow than the city has gotten all winter, until now. By comparison, the city already had 25 inches of snow for the season at this time last year.

Winona topped the region for snowfall, which led to school delays and closings today.

Winona had seven inches by 8 a.m. De Soto reported 6.5 inches and French Island had six inches.

Jackson and Monroe Counties report lighter amounts of only an inch or two.
