Winona, Eau Claire ranked better

La Crosse has been ranked as one of America’s top small cities in the past, but a new survey now rates it as a little more average.

It’s WalletHub’s 2017 Best Small Cities in America – cities with populations between 25,000-100,000.

La Crosse received a 59.42 rating, falling into the 69th percentile of the 1,268 ranked cities.

The scoring criteria, as can be seen in the photo, were Affordability, Economic Health, Education & Health, Quality of Life and Safety.

The only area where La Crosse made the Top 100 was education and health, while it fell just out of the Top 100 in quality of life.

Winona, Minn., finished in the 75th percentile with a 60.57 rating. Eau Claire, Wis., was in the 80th percentile.

The Milwaukee suburb of Brookfield was the only city in Wisconsin, Minnesota or Iowa to get in the Top 20, ranked 13th with a 67.09 score.

The worst city was Bessemer, Ala., though East Point, Ga., appears to be the only city to finish ranked in the 1000s in all five criteria.
