UW business school drops plan to close full-time MBA program

Students, alumni complained it hurts
value of degrees, undermines diversity

MADISON, Wis. — The University of Wisconsin School of Business has backed off a proposal that could have eliminated its full-time Master of Business Administration program.

The Wisconsin State Journal reports Dean Anne Massey announced the reversal Wednesday, less than a week after the proposal became public and two days after the business school announced the details.

The proposal called for the school to suspend admissions into its two-year, full-time MBA program for one year as part of a broader review. Officials acknowledged to students last week that they were considering discontinuing the full-time program.

That led to complaints from students and alumni that suspending the program court hurt the value of their degrees and undermine diversity.

Massey acknowledged in a statement that the school moved too quickly without sufficient consultation with stakeholders.
