Tainted gas could be in your tank

Here’s a list of stations in La Crosse, Winona and
surrounding areas that are contaminated 

If you bought gasoline in the extended area recently, it could be tainted.

An operational malfunction inadvertently added a small amount of diesel, potentially affecting 87 octane gas.

The list of gas stations with tainted gas is below, from stations in northeast Iowa, western Wisconsin and southeastern Minnesota.

It is, apparently, unlikely the small amount of contamination will cause severe or long-term vehicle damage but those who bought gas at the listed stations since Friday afternoon and experienced poor performance such as knocking or pinging should contact the Commerce Department’s Weights & Measures Division (click here) or call 651-539-1555.

Magellan Midstream Partners Rochester (Eyota, Minn.) reported an operational malfunction that added the diesel to the 87 octane. Magellan notified the Commerce Department’s Weights & Measures Division of the problem and the immediate actions it is taking to recover and replace the contaminated gas.

Inspectors will be testing samples at the stations to ensure that all problems are corrected and will investigate the operational cause of the contamination, Magellan’s response and its corrective actions.
