Unlike Milwaukee, La Crosse is pro Pokémon Go

Milwaukee taking heat for demanding Poké licenses

Parks in the city of La Crosse are Poké-friendly.

While Milwaukee County’s park system took a hit last week, demanding the Pokemon company get a license for Pokémon Go in its parks, La Crosse officials have absolutely no problem with the Pokemon community.

Heck, even La Crosse’s park board chair is out there throwing Poké balls around the park.

“I started playing it and it’s a lot of fun,” Ryan Cornett said. “I tell people about it, because, as the chair of the park board, I’m in the parks a lot with these people and you see the amount of people around, playing, interacting with each other and getting out and exercising. It’s kind of nice.

“If I go down to (Riverside Park) on a nice day, in the evening especially, I’ll see a lot of people out there playing Pokémon.”

Cornett says there’s hard to see much that’s bad in getting more people in the parks – even if they are focused on their phones the whole time. 

The only problem Cornett has with Pokémon Go players is when they are invading parks after hours.

Other than that, he’s learned a thing or two about the city while chasing down a Pikachu.

“It’s pretty interesting,” he said. ” You have people that are going to parks – going to these Poké stops – which are throughout the city. Many of them are churches, historic locations. They’re pretty neat places, and some of them I didn’t even know existed in the city.”
