Zika virus vaccine doesn’t necessarily mean cure
Best to temper expectations after last week’s good news
Last week, the University of Wisconsin-Madison had some good news about a possible vaccine for the Zika virus.
Maybe pump the brakes on that a little.
Bridget Pfaff, the infection control specialist at Gundersen Health System, warns that positive toward a vaccine doesn’t mean a cure is around the corner.
“There might be some opportunity for the future of vaccines against Zika virus, which shows up hope that there might be some potential for prevention in the future,” she said.
The University of Wisconsin-Madison just released a study that found significant strides in vaccinating monkeys against Zika.
A couple of vaccines elsewhere are have proven effective in mice.
