LA CRESCENT, Minn. — Police say the 27-year-old man who was seen covered in blood as he emerged from a car, staggered, then collapsed, is a La Crosse man.

He is also the suspect in the stabbing of a Bangor, Wis., woman and 3-year-old child, who were also in the car at the intersection of Juniper and Willow streets around 5:30 p.m. Tuesday in La Crescent.

The witness said the woman got out of the car bleeding, screaming, as she cradled the child.

All three were taken to the hospital, where the 27-year-old man and 3-year-old child underwent surgery.

Stavenau says the suspect is under police guard. No names have been released, but the three are said to have known each other. Also, no word on the dog, which was also attacked.
