Marsh road, bridge over the Black River, DOT report delayed

Report to come in August, won’t be so fulfilling

The Wisconsin Dept. of Transportation’s final report on road options in La Crosse is a ways off.

And, even then, that report won’t provide any answers to La Crosse’s questions about a marsh road, a bridge over the Black River to La Crosse or doing nothing at all.

The report from the DOT on the Coulee Region Transportation Study likely won’t be available until August at the earliest. And what can be expected then are things that have already come to light.

There are no preferred transportation routes to and from the city in the report.

“All it really is is a compilation of everything that we’ve done – documenting, processes that we went through, the findings that we had, the data that we found,” Andrew Winga with the DOT in La Crosse said. “It’ll be the same strategies that we found, the same information that we presented through all of our meetings,” Winga said. “It’s just compiling it all into one humongous document.”

As for a timetable for actual answers to La Crosse’s transportation options.

“That would be quite a ways down the road,” Winga said with no pun intended. “Being able to get to a preferred alternative is an even more complicated process than what we went through.”
