Council says no to developers in Medary and Shelby

A couple of planned subdivisions in the ridges near La Crosse will have to be put on hold for now.

Thursday, the La Crosse city council overwhelmingly voted to deny applications by two different developers for the Maple Ridge neighborhood in Medary and the Irish Hills development in Shelby.

Both would include homes worth around $500,000 on lots of an acre or more.

Many on the council, however, argued that the developments don’t benefit the city at all and will only increase the cost of services.

The hope is also that by denying the applications, both towns are more likely to make more concessions in ongoing boundary talks.
