Director says a new generation of clowns are coming

La Crosse has been a summer destination for all types of professionals in the recent past.

For a few years, the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse would host both the New Orleans Saints training camp and an international Clown Camp between the spring and fall semesters.

The Saints left years ago, as did the clowns … until now.

Clown Camp makes a comeback next week at Viterbo University.

Kenny Ahern of La Crosse, known for his popular performances at Riverfest, is assistant director of the camp that begins Sunday.

Ahern says a new generation interested in clowning is learning from the entertainers who attended the early clown camps here.

Nearly 150 people will attend the Viterbo clown camp, from places as distant as India and Japan.
