ISIS suffering, but threats by the group still grow

Group taking huge revenue losses, but its members growing

ISIS fears haven’t diminished much.

Certainly not on the Senate Homeland Security Committee, chaired by Wisconsin Sen. Ron Johnson.

He says the organization is still strong, even after taking a few hits in the jaw recently, noting that its revenue had dropped from $80 million per month to $56 million per. Or, from just under $1 billion a year to $672 million per. 

“Still some pretty significant revenue in the hands of barbarians,” Johnson said.

While ISIS monthly revenue has diminished somewhat because of losses on the battlefield, it’s also a group that’s gaining converts.

“The fact that ISIS has a territory, has established it’s caliphate, other Islamic terror groups are beginning to pledged their loyalty,” Johnson said.

Johnson warns of impending attacks by the terror group on infrastructure like nuclear power plants in the U.S and Europe.

Europe is at greater risk, however, because of its proximity to the ISIS center of power.

“As things degrade in Syria and Iraq, that’s putting enormous pressure on European union states,” Johnson said.

It won’t be just infrastructure, however. Johnson believes cyber attacks, which could be disabling or dangerous, are just as likely. 

Johnson is calling for more surveillance to counter the ISIS threats.
