UW-L finishes fourth overall in coach Pat Healy’s last meet

WAVERLY, Iowa – In the last meet for 25-year coach Pat Healy, his University of Wisconsin-La Crosse women’s track and field team finished fourth in the NCAA Division III National Championships.

Led by Independence, Wis., native Bri Halama’s second-consecutive individual title in the triple jump, the Eagles scored 35 points. Illinois Wesleyan won (42), Baldwin-Wallace was second (41) and Washington (Mo.) was third (39).

Halama, a senior, jumped 42 feet, 2.25 inches to win her second national triple jump title. It was a Walston-Hoover Stadium record. Her season best, however, came in the WIAC championships (41-5.25).

Also scoring for the Eagles was Claire Gordee, taking third in the 100-meter hurdles (14.17). Meg Heafy finished fifth in the 100 (12.38).

Maggie Slatter, Courtney Purcell, along with Gordee and Heafy, took second in the 400 relay (46.28).
