Morrison won Ingersoll Rand Co.

Kathryn Morrison will be studying science or research in college, and now the Central High School senior has a little help to pay for it.

Morrison is the winner of the Ingersoll Rand Co. scholarship and one of 7,500 finalists for the National Merit Scholarship Program, which will give out more than $33 million in scholarship funds by year’s end.

Ingersoll Rand says it is part of the program because it believes “the future of our country requires a healthy, forward-looking education system that produces well-rounded, educated and skilled citizens who know the basic value of free enterprise.”

Finalists must have an outstanding academic record, be endorsed by a school official and write an essay.
