Several bear sightings were
reported in recent days

CHATFIELD, Minn. — A black bear dead in Fillmore county this weekend after a police shooting.

The 200-plus-pound, adult male bear was shot simultaneously by a Fillmore County deputy and a DNR officer.

Police in Fillmore say it received the bear-in-a-tree call at about 9 p.m. Sunday in the city of Chatfield at 719 Grand Street.

Officers used lights and sound to get the bear to leave. They say it got out of the tree but then stuck around and growled at cops and DNR agents.

After having several reports in recent days of bear sightings and the presumed threat the bear posed to the public, they decided to just get rid of it.
