Bodies found this week,
cats shot in last month

Two cats were shot by a man on French Island, and the district attorney’s office is trying to find out why.

It will take the La Crosse County DA a couple weeks to investigate animal cruelty charges against 52-year-old Richard Gilbert.

Bodies of the cats were found this week at a house on Walnut Street, but a witness said the animals were killed last month.

Gilbert’s niece apparently told police about the shootings.

Gilbert was released from jail after a court appearance on Wednesday.  He’ll come before a judge again on April 20th.
