Wisconsin’s April 5 elections about more than who runs for president

Republican party chair says, “It’s nothing less
than the financial future of our county.”

The April 5 presidential primary in Wisconsin is on the forefront of a lot of people’s minds.

La Crosse Republican Party chair Bill Feehan is thinking about that race, as well. But he also has a stake in the county board elections that day, and that stake is huge.

“It’s nothing less than the financial future of our county,” Feehan said.

Feehan believes some action by the current board makes the outcome of this spring’s elections really big – especially the multi-million dollar move to an old bank building as a new office space.

“It’s the most important issue in the campaign,” said Feehan, who has been actively supporting conservative candidates in county board races. “I don’t think the average person believes we had to spend $24 million for new offices.

“We need to get our priorities straight. Before we spend $24.5 million on offices, we should make sure that the roads are repaired.”

It’s that spending why Feehan has been so supportive of conservative candidates.

“I hope that people realize that we are giving them alternative choices at the polls,” Feehan said. “People who are going to be more fiscally conservative and who are going to prioritize spending differently.”

Feehan has been attacked during this election cycle for bringing party politics into what’s supposed to be nonpartisan county board races. He argues, however, that is what democrats have been doing for years.
