You may have heard a lot about the condition of La Crosse’s Memorial swimming pool, which faces an uncertain future.

From 1-3 p.m. today, the La Crosse parks dept. invites the public to get a close look at the empty pool during an open house.

The park board has recommended keeping the pool closed for the 2016 season, because of the high cost of repairing it before summer use.

Backers of the pool want it preserved and declared a local historic landmark.

City workers have estimated repairs at about $40,000 to get the nearly 80-year-old pool ready for swimming.

Last year, the pricetag was around $50,000 to repair the pool.
