Snowstorm shouldn’t cause Mississippi to flood

Flood state is 12 feet in La Crosse

Unless the area gets a lot of rain and snow in the next month, La Crosse will probably avoid flooding of the Mississippi River this spring.

The weather service says the river crested Tuesday night at 10-point-8 feet in La Crosse. Local flood stage is 12 feet.

The water has already dropped below 10 feet today, and it could fall another foot in the next week.

Also, the foot of snow La Crosse has gotten this March is well above normal, but didn’t put the area over the amount acculated over winter as compared to last winter.

This week’s storm brought six inches of snow to downtown La Crosse, eight to Holmen and 13 in Osseo.

The city would still need another 6 inches to make the list of 10 snowiest Marches ever in La Crosse.
