For the third consecutive year, the Caledonia High School boys basketball team is in the state tournament.

At 6 p.m. Saturday, the Warriors (28-2) learned they will have the No. 2 seed in the Class 2A field.

At 6 p.m. Wednesday at Williams Arena on the University of Minnesota campus in Minneapolis, the Warriors, ranked No. 2 in Class 2A, will play unranked Jackson County (23-5).

Caledonia, which averages 81.5 points for and 59.1 points against, heads into the tournament having won eight in a row after a 105-73 blowout loss to Minnesota basketball powerhouse, Hopkins (29-1). Hopkins is the No. 3-ranked team in Class 4A, Minnesota’s largest division.

Caledonia’s only other loss came 75-71 on Jan. 2 to Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau (22-0), the top-ranked team in Wisconsin’s Division 3.

Jackson County has won 11 consecutive games following back-to-back losses in mid-January. The Huskies average 74.7 points a game and give up 55.9.

Last season, Caledonia lost in the state championship 63-51 to Melrose Area.

The year before that, the Warriors lost 81-76 in the state semifinals to Annandale, before winning the third-place game 79-56 over Fairmont.
