Education could help renters

Renter’s ed. classes
offered once a month

Some help for renters who struggle to find and keep good housing in La Crosse comes in the form of renting education.

Majel Olsen from the Consumer Credit Counseling in La Crosse teaches a rental class every month at the Salvation Army.

She says rental education is essential information, even though you might think it wouldn’t be necessary.

‘It seems pretty basic but sometimes the thing about renting or anything in life is really, we don’t know what we don’t know,” Olsen said.

One of the biggest challenges renters often face, she said, is getting evicted and then having other landlords deny rental applications because those evictions are still on their records.
