Mayor supports raise for La Crosse’s city clerk

Kabat has vetoed a mayoral raise twice

La Crosse’s mayor might not support a raise for his position, but he’s fine with giving someone else a boost in pay.

A proposal in front of the city council would raise the pay for the city clerk from about $70,000 to $72,500.

Kabat says, it’s been a while since pay for the position was increased, but it is a really important job

“Most cities now have gone to an appointed clerk based on the needs for expertise, background and everything else,” Kabat said.

Kabat has vetoed a raise for his own position twice, so far. The city council is likely to attempt an override the latest veto next month.
